Metal casting Industry is among one of the world's oldest industries. More than 90 percent of all manufactured goods and capital equipment uses metal casting, centrifugal castings, metal centrifugal castings, permanent mold castings and others as the engineered components or rely on casting for their manufacture. The city has a civil airport at Peelamedu and an Airforce base at Sulur. Broad Gauge trains connect to all parts of India and a meter gauge line connects to the cities of Palani, Dindugul & Madurai. Recently, a toll way has been built to ease inter city traffic congestion was built recently to avoid unnecessary traffic into the city.
